WP 5 – Development of efficient computation modules and implementation

A number of computation procedures for both different foundation concepts (e.g. Monopiles, suction caissons, GBSs, piled jackets) and limit states – i.e. capacity (ULS), serviceability (SLS) and fatigue (FLS) – have been developed through several R&D projects. These are the RedWin models which is well suited for FLS of various foundation concepts, the PISA model which can be used for capacity analysis of monopiles, and the cyclic NGI p-y model which is well suited for capacity and serviceability of (Mono-)piles.

In order to use these tools and methods in a streamlined design workflow, they have to be implemented in modules and the input generated in WP2, WP3 and WP4, need to be standardized. This enables the exchange of information and data between these modules, which is necessary since several procedures shall be executed in parallel to enable a foundation geometry optimization.

Main goals

1. The first goal of this WP is to develop a standardized data format and to implement this together with the different tools and procedures in modules. The standardization shall also consider tools and data used in other disciplines, which are not included in RedWin2. This shall ensure that the final deliverable of RedWin 2 can be used in existing design environment.
2. The second goal is to implement the simplified procedures developed in WP3 utilizing intelligent mathematical statistical-based regression functions, which generate the necessary input data to the different modules.
3. The third goal of this WP is to develop optimization routines to identify the required foundation dimensions. executes the different computational modules both in parallel and iteratively to find a foundation geometry satisfying all limit state criteria. The optimization routines will consider the uncertainties of the input data and weighting factors can be defined by the user. But also high and low estimates of foundation geometries can be assessed. Although, this can enable the user to use apply the software in probabilistic analysis, a deterministic design approach is aspired.
4. The fourth goal of this WP is to develop a software with an easy to use interface. The software will ensure a smooth and consistent interaction between the different modules and shall allow the user to adjust the input and exchange of information between the modules where necessary. Output of the software is an optimised foundation geometry and input data for the subsequent integrated analyses conducted by structural and load engineers. The software package will be the core deliverable of the RedWin 2 project.
