Avalanche research aims to increase our knowledge of avalanches to reduce society's losses concerning this natural hazard. We collaborate closely with the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), and avalanche research institutes in Switzerland and Austria. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Norwegian National Rail Administration are examples of public agencies collaborating with partners and users of NGI's avalanche research results.

NATRISK is an international partnership for enhancing risk management and resilience to natural hazards through collaboration in research, education, and innovation that connects expertise from Brazil, India, and Norway. The partnership focuses on excellence in education and research to reduce risk and increase societal resilience to natural hazards in steep terrain.
Anchor Design - Scarborough FPU
Working on behalf of McDermott in Australia, NGI performed the detailed geotechnical design of the suction anchors to moor the Scarborough Floating Production Unit, which will process the natural gas before it is transported back to shore.
DINAMINE - Digital and innovative mine of the future
DINAMINE is an Innovation Action granted under Horizon Europe, the EU's key funding program for research and innovation. DINAMINE will develop and showcase how innovative solutions and digital technology, such as robots, artificial intelligence, and automation, can make small and medium-sized mines more efficient and sustainable.
Energy sheet pile wall at Campus Ullevaal
The energy sheet pile wall at Campus Ullevaal is a full-scale innovation project that tests a new energy solution for using the soil in the ground as a sustainable and stable thermal energy store. Surplus energy, in the form of heat and cold, can be stored in the sheet pile wall for later use. ENOVA has awarded the solution 50% investment support within the program Full-scale Innovative Energy and Climate Technology.
International Quick Clay Center
The Quick Clay Center has the aim to create an international arena to boost competence on sensitive clays. The center is facilitated by NGI and will be partly supported through the base funding (Grunnbevilgning) NGI receives from the Research Council of Norway.
BEAR - Sustainable energy from soil deposits
BEAR is a research and innovation project that tests solutions for the use of geothermal energy from soil deposits as a source for sustainable and stable energy. The geothermal energy solution can function as an integral part of the building construction, and thereby reduce the costs of establishing such systems.
