From Waste to Value, Algerie
This project aims to set up a plastic recycling business in Tindouf, Algeria, including refugees and members from the host community in the operations. The initiative should reduce plastic ending up in the environment, reduce GHG emissions and increase the livelihoods of those working at the facility.
Refugees have lived around Tindouf in the Sahara Desert for more than 40 years, relying entirely on humanitarian aid. Probably more than 8 million tons of waste are generated in the five refugee camps each year, including 1700 tons of plastic.

Therefore, this Project aimed to set up a recycling facility, use plastic waste generated in and around the camps, and make it into sellable products. A fully operational facility was put in place during the project period, enabling a viable business to blossom, giving an income to those who live in the area, and decreasing the amount of plastic ending up in nature.
