WP 6 - Re-design of OWTs and estimates of cost saving

This WP will investigate possible cost savings from design using improved integrated analyses including soil interaction models compared to the traditional methods.

Participating partners: Olav Olsen, Equinor, IFE, NGI.

The estimated savings will be based on a simplified redesign/design of two foundation concepts (most likely a monopile and a monopod bucket foundation). The design will be simplified in the sense that a smaller number of load cases considered will be selected compared to a standard design.

This can be achieved by considering already defined critical load cases from existing designs. The design optimization is mainly related to reduction in steel tonnage and the consequence will be illustrated as the change in CAPEX of a full wind farm.

The outcome of this work package will further outline recommendations for improved design of the OWT foundation based on the new methods developed within the project.
