NGI strengthens offshore wind design through partnership with Longitude
11. September 2025: The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) has entered into a partnership with design and engineering consultancy Longitude to provide developers and operators of offshore wind farms with an integrated technical offering in offshore wind design, from concept to detailed design including foundations, subsea cables and offshore substations.

Offshore wind farms require both structural and geotechnical expertise. NGI and Longitude are joining forces to deliver integrated design solutions for the sector. ( NGI)
“Our goal is to deliver an enhanced and integrated technical offering in offshore wind design, fostering innovation and creating new solutions that support the growth of the sector. Working with Longitude allows us to strengthen this ambition – from concept studies to FEED and detailed design,” says Thomas Langford, NGI’s director of offshore energy.
Longitude, part of Oslo-listed ABL Group, specialises in offshore wind design, subsea and marine operations engineering. The partnership with NGI further strengthens Longitude’s position in offshore wind by reinforcing its geotechnical design capabilities.
International reach and collaboration
Although Norwegian by name, NGI is an international consultancy and research business with offices in Norway (Oslo, Trondheim, and Tromsø), the USA (Houston and Boston), and Australia (Perth). It also operates internationally-renowned laboratories in Oslo, Houston, and Perth. NGI is soon to open a new office in central London to continue developing its pipeline of projects across Europe.
Through the agreement, NGI’s geotechnical expertise can be paired with Longitude’s capabilities in structural design and engineering. The collaboration will focus on knowledge exchange, market approach and joint execution of projects, with more than 2,200 offshore specialists and 400 geotechnical engineers available to the market.
“I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with NGI to drive new design solutions and added value for clients in the offshore wind space. Combining our structural design and engineering competence with NGI’s geotechnical expertise creates something new and competitive for clients in this fast-moving market,” says Jan Erik Berg, Longitude’s global director for offshore wind design.
