How Geology Shapes Offshore Wind

See the information video about the IJmuiden Ver Gamma Ground Model Animation.

Published 26.09.2025

The ground model animation is based on geological and geotechnical investigations conducted in the IJmuiden Ver Gamma wind farm zone, which is located approximately 60 kilometers off the Dutch coast in the North Sea.

Quantitative 3D ground models are key to de-risking and optimizing cable routes and foundation design for offshore wind farms. In this animation, we explore how geology — and long-term climate change — have influenced the subsurface conditions in the IJmuiden Ver Gamma wind farm zone.

This video, developed in collaboration with SAND Geophysics and with support from Lina Jakaite, celebrates the vital role geology plays in offshore wind development.

Dive into the complete reports on geology, geotechnical interpretation, and the integrated quantitative ground model.
