WP2 Co-Develop
WP2 builds on the outcomes of the Co-Design process and transitions to a Co-Development process that focuses on developing visualization tools and climate change scenarios.
Different methods and tools like workshops and interviews will be conducted to foster innovations in the climate adaptation process. The facilitator invites stakeholders to discuss the climate services and to gain impressions on their perspectives. The idea is to think with each other instead of for each other.
To facilitate this process, climate services in form of a range of visual tools, techniques and styles will be developed. Visual choices, such as scale or color scheme, etc., also greatly influence the readability of a design and carry with them certain visual authority. In general, the approach is determined by an interplay of three key elements:
- Interactivity: the engagement of a representation with the world
- Readability: the visual qualities of the representation
- Validity: the ideas embedded in the representation
As such, the process of developing climate services is therefore not just about getting ideas on paper, but also about knowledge exchange. Such an educative approach helps participants to value each other’s input better, which increases the legitimacy of the choices made during the process.
Objectives
- To develop with the stakeholders relevant, local-scale scenarios for the study site
- To identify effective ways of visualizing and communicating exposure, vulnerability and risk to define the types of climate services needed within each community
- To determine efficient ways for communicating scientific knowledge and results to stakeholders
- To identify elements for a quality certification system for risk and uncertainty
Activities
Activities include basic research (literature review) and applied research (development of narratives and scenarios, exposure and vulnerability analysis, production of visualizations for scenarios and risk).
- Task 2.1
Develop a set of future physical and socio-economic scenarios for the study sites following the principles of the new scenario framework of climate impact research (RCPs and SSPs) (Responsible: CAU and other partners). - Task 2.2
Conduct preliminary analysis of exposure, vulnerability and risk for input to a future quality certification system of climate services. - Task 2.3
Develop a common palette of visualization material (e.g. maps, web applications) for scenarios and risk and identify with stakeholders the most effective/efficient options.
