  • Geotechnical design for Dolwin 2 wind energy platform

    NGI has been responsible for the geotechnical engineering for the Dolwin 2 platform for utilization of wind energy in the German North Sea.

    NGI's Board has appointed Lars Andresen as NGI's new Managing Director after Suzanne Lacasse. He will start in his new position 2nd January 2012.

    NGI's avalanche experts have been admitted as professional members of the American Avalanche Association (AAA).  

  • Generous grant to NGI's lab!

    Dr. John Schmertmann, Professor Emeritus at University of Florida provided a most generous grant to NGI's laboratory for research on fundamental soil behavior. He visited NGI in the end of August to lay plans for the use of the grant.  

  • NGI employee awarded environmental stipendium

    The Board of "Miljøringen" annually selects an environmental fellowship with the goal of inspiring young scientists to increase their competence by seeking institutions or locations in the contaminated soil and sediment field.  

  • Investigating contaminated Saguenay fjord

    NGI has participated in an investigation in the Saguenay-fjord in Quebec, Canada to investigate the condition of a fjord system which is highly influenced by industrial activity.  

  • Slide mitigation of highway in Vietnam

    NGI has recently been on an assignment in Vietnam on an ongoing project to carry out field investigations along the Ho Chi Minh highway where landslides consistently block the road.

    NGI hosted a reception during the OTC 2011 conference. The evening reception included a short seminar presented by James Strout, head of the instrumentation division in NGI Oslo.  

  • Lidar scanner with unprecedented capabilities

    NGI now has a new lidar scanner with unprecedented capabilities. The Lidar can create highly accurate "images" of the physical surroundings, and the new equipment can make images at distances of over 3 000 metres.  

  • Solid anchoring at the Skarv field

    The development of the oil and gas field Skarv on the continental shelf in Northern Norway is well underway. In October 2010 the installation of suction anchors for the only visible part of the field development started.  

  • Borkum West - new NGI metrology contract

    GeoSea and NGI have recently signed a contract for the development and delivery of a "Metrology and monitoring systems" for pile installations for the foundation of the new wind turbine park in Borkum West in the southern North Sea.  

  • Japan Tsunami 11. March 2011-03-11

    At 0546Z an earthquake located east of Tokyo, Japan generated a huge tsunami. The location of the earthquake was about 100 km from land. Initial analysis indicate that the main direction of the tsunami waves is south-east towards Hawai.  

  • World leading professional to NGI - Harry Poulos

    The recognized geotechnician, Harry Poulos, will visit NGI 14-15 March, for meetings on cooperating aspects. He will also present an open lecture on forensic foundation engineering.  

  • Geotechnical Facility in India inaugurated by Norwegian Minister

    The National Geotechnical Facility (NGF) in India was officially inaugurated by high level officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology and Norwegian Minister for Research, Tora Aasland on the 2nd of Feb. 2011.  

  • Monster wave becomes world famous

    The monster wave that hit the Draupner E oil platform in the North Sea in 1995 quickly became world famous among oil industry scientists and wave researchers. Now the wave has had a resurgence, so to speak, and has become a hit among the general public.
