For this purpose, NGI utilizes commercial and in-house software to develop advanced algorithm and analysis tools. Over the last 20 years NGI has contributed with developing theories, software and hardware for EM exploration and monitoring purposes (e.g. 1st practical demo survey off the cost of Angola in 2000, wide-band EM survey for Uranus salt-dome in 2007, etc.).

We provide following services for industry:

  • CSEM data processing, and inversion/interpretation based on multi-physics or multi-disciplines
  • Forward modelling via fully analytical solution, integral equation, finite difference, finite element, including borehole-related EM
  • Inversion and interpretation algorithm development
  • CSEM whole workflow, i.e. feasibility study, survey design, hardware development, actual acquisition, data processing, interpretation and inversion, and reservoir evaluation/qualification (e.g. Uranus EM survey).

Research activities within EM and CSEM

Developments of more advanced 3D inversion algorithm and joint inversion (i.e. gravity, EM and seismic) are focused. In addition, the efficiency of the CSEM data modelling and inversion algorithms is always an issue when interpreting the real data.

During the last years, NGI has already developed in-house CSEM modelling and inversion routines that are proved accurate. Their speed or related workflow will be improved further by e.g. making faster 3D forward modelling methodology and dynamic (i.e. varying inversion dofs) inversion algorithm.
