NGI has played a key role in evaluating the ground conditions at the Johan Sverdrup Field, located at the Utsirahøyden in the North Sea, 140 km west of Stavanger. The work included recommendation of soil design parameters and applying these geotechnical analyis and design in conjunction with foundation engineering.

Challenge

The Johan Sverdrup field is Norway's largest new development, with 4 jackets and a number of other structures to be installed.

Method and services

NGI has been involved with three rounds of offshore site investigations, advanced laboratory testing and soil parameter evaluation. We have also been directly supporting clients such as Kvaerner, MSC Gusto and Master Marine with design of piles for jacket platforms and foundations for rigs.

Result

The challenging soil layers at the site have resulted in innovative geotechnical testing and foundation solutions which aim to provide an optimised solution to the project with critical time frames for Development.
