Geofuture 2

The primary objective of GeoFuture is to supply the building, construction and transport industry with methods and tools for geotechnical design and calculations.
The GeoFuture project proposes a 3-dimensional and integrated set of models to support civil engineering construction with geotechncial solutions.

GeoFuture II is a joint Norwegian and Swedish research Project, and a continuation of the GeoFuture I, 2011-15.  

The primary objective is to supply the building, construction and transport industry with methods and tools for geotechnical design and analysis. The GeoFuture project proposes a 3D integrated set of models to support civil engineering construction with geotechncial solutions.

It is financed by The Norwegian Research Council, and GeoFuture II has a budget of 26.4 mill. NOK (approx. 3.1 mill. Euro) for the Project period 2015 to 2019. A total number of 14 partners participate in the project, representing industry, research institutions and public organizations, see the participant list on the bottom of this page.

GeoFuture will offer a complete integration of geotechnical calculations with handling of geotechnical data, selection of input parameters for analysis and 3D visualization. Computer programs for stability, settlement, piles, excavation and bearing capacity calculations will be developed through the project. 3D calculations will exist as an option for all software modules in the GeoSuite software package, so that the user will be able to choose to perform the calculation in 1D, 2D or 3D. GeoFuture will deliver a complete and seamless solution for life cycle management of 3D data with the development of a new and open 3D data model. A knowledge-based system for assisting the practicing engineer to assess and verify geotechnical parameters and calculation results is also developed through the project.

At the end of the GeoFuture project, methods and tools will exist to integrate 3D calculations within a complete 3D visualization, based on advanced soil models for different foundation problems for the building, construction and transport industry. The main objective is a user friendly and seamless tool for geotechnical calculations and design, which will be commercially available through the existing framework of GeoSuite Toolbox.

The GeoFuture II project is led by a Steering Committee with representatives from the project partners. Project responsible is Multiconsiult, whereas Dr. Steffen Giese, presently senior geotechnical advisor at Multiconsult, is appointed project director. Dr. Suzanne Lacasse is the deputy project director. She is now Technical Director at NGI, and was Managing Director at NGI from 1991 to 2011. Pernille Wahlberg at Multiconsult is the Project Administrator.
