New technology provides secure tunnels

The Løren tunnel will extend from Økern to Sinsen along the north-eastern part of the Oslo Ring3-road. This is part an improved road system in one of the most frequented crossroads in Norway. The tunnel will be a 900 meters rock tunnel with two separate lanes side by side and concrete culverts in each end. The construction work will be completed in 2013. Client: Norwegian Public Roads Administration Eastern Region. Main contractor: Veidekke AS.
Due to the need for more sophisticated and improved documentation methods in underground excavations, LiDAR technology and 3D scanning has successfully been applied at NGI in tunnels during construction. This film gives a brief introduction to the use of LiDAR technology in underground construction in a drill-and-blast tunnel in Oslo, Norway.
The video was recorded by Newswire in November 2010 for NGI.
