ICG utnevnt til World Centre of Excellence

ICG (International Centre for Geohazards) ble utnevnt til World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Risk Reduction, sammen med flere andre institusjoner på The First World Landslide Forum i Tokyo 18-21 november.

ICG er en av mange deltakere i International Consortium on Landslides (ICL), som ble opprettet ifm Kyoto Symposium i Januar 2002. NGIs viseadm.dir. Oddvar Kjekstad er en av fire visepresidenter i ICL. Hovedtemaene for The First World Landslide Forum var:

a) Promotion of research and exchange of experience through open Forums, Symposia and Thematic Sessions

b) Advances and achievements of International Programme on Landslides

• Technology Development (Monitoring and Early Warning, Hazard Mapping, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment)
• Targeted Landslides (Catastrophic Landslides, Landslides Threatening Heritage Sites)
• Capacity Building (Enhancing Human and Institutional Capacities, Collating and Disseminating Information/Knowledge)
• Mitigation, Preparedness and Recovery
  

c) Designation of World Centres of Excellence on Landslide Risk Reduction

• The Global Promotion Committee (GPC) of the International Programme on Landslides (IPL) identified and promoted World Centres of Excellence (WCoEs)

På First World Landslide Forum var ICG/NGI representert med Suzanne Lacasse, adm.dir. NGI, Oddvar Kjekstad, viseadm.dir. NGI, Farrokh Nadim, leder ICG  og Bjørn Kalsnes, nestleder ICG. Lacasse og Nadim presenterte begge inviterte plenumforedrag den første dagen. Nadim ledet og holdt foredraget "Submarine slides and their consequences" på en av parallellsesjonene.  Kjekstad var leder for en av panelsesjonene, og Kalsnes holdt et av konferansens hovedforedrag: "Keynote lecture - Effects of global change on landslide risk", etterfulgt av en paneldebatt på avslutningsdagen.
