NGI employee awarded environmental stipendium
Date: 6/16/2011
The Board of Miljøringen (a Norwegian environmental network) annually selects an environmental fellowship with the goal of inspiring young scientists to increase their competence by seeking institutions or locations in the contaminated soil and sediment field.
Hans Peter Arp at NGI was awarded the stipendium for 2011.
Miljøringen states:
Hans Peter Arp is, in the Board's opinion, a worthy winner of the Miljøringen award to young professionals. This 34 year old NGI employee is currently researching new toxins in the environment and contaminated sediments.
He has a PhD in Environmental Sciences at ETH Zürich from 2007 and has authored an impressive list of 31 scientific articles. ln 2010, he was selected as an "Emerging lnvestigator" by the Journal of Environmental Monitoring.
Hans Peter urges researchers from Norway and other countries to work closer together on environmental problems. He intends to use the grant to cover part of the cost of a visit to the Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI) in Yokosuka, Japan. His aim is to further develop contacts and cooperation with PARI in the surveillance of contaminated sediments and associated action strategies.
