NGI at OTC 2009 in Houston

Date: 5/6/2009

NGI is also this year represented with several lectures during the OTC 2009 conferance, arranged in Houston, Texas 4-7 May. A reception for NGI's clients and cooperating companies will be held at the ZaZA Hotel on Wednesday May 6.

Among the articles presented by NGI is a description of  the design and installation of suction anchors for the novel cylindrical FPSO at the Shelley Field in the British Sector of the North Sea. The anchors were installed with assistance from NGI in June-July 2008.

Twelve anchors at three clusters around the platform were installed. The three areas have quite variable soil conditions, one with homogeneous soft clay, the second with very dense sand, and the third with layered soil of soft clay and dense sand.

The anchors for the area with dense sand were equipped with a water-flow system to reduce the penetration resistance. All anchors were installed according to plan and as predicted and the estimated resistance compared well with measured values during installation for all the anchors.
