Launch of "Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction" at NGI
Date: 6/5/2009
The UN-ISDR (International Strategy for Disaster Reduction) has prepared the "Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction", and have launch events around the world in May and June. A launch in Norway took place at NGI in Oslo 4. June.

The Report is the first biennial global assessment of disaster risk reduction prepared in the context of the ISDR. Challenges on climate change and preventive measures are evaluated in parallell. See the official announcement of the lauch event in Oslo.
Oslo was chosen as one of the venues for the launch events due to Norway's substantial interest and engagement in preventive measures in natural disasters. The Oslo launch gathered about 60 participants in the Bjerrum Audotorium at the Norwegian Geotechnical Instute. The State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Haakon Gulbrandsen, held the welcome address. Andrew Maskrey and Pascal Peduzzi from ISDR in Genève thereafter presented the main points of the report, and the comprehensive data collection and modelling which has been made. Farrokh Nadim from NGI and the Centre for Geohazards (ICG) presented the results prepared by NGI, included in the report.
The report draws a realistic picture on how to make the earth a safer place to be.
