Appointed Professor II at NTNU

Date: 5/5/2008

 Dr. Hans Petter Jostad
Dr. Hans Petter Jostad has been appointed to a Professor II position in geotechnical engineering at the Department of Civil and Transport Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU.

The part-time position is for a period of five years, and Dr. Jostad will also continue his position as Discipline Leader in Numerical Modelling at NGI. His assignments at NTNU will be as lecturer and student adviser in numerical modelling and the finite element method.

NGI is sponsoring the Professor II position established in cooperation with the geotechnical engineering group at NTNU. NGI's Dr. Farrokh Nadim already holds a Professor II position in geotechnical engineering at NTNU, in conjunction with his work as Director of International Centre for Geohazards (ICG), where both NGI and NTNU participate.

The geotechnical engineering group at NTNU, lead by Professor Steinar
Nordal, has always had close cooperation with NGI. The legendary
Professor Emeritus Nilmar

Dr. Farrokh Nadim

Janbu at NTH/NTNU was the leader of NGI's branch office in Trondheim, but in 1963 the branch office and its laboratory facilities became the Institute for Geotechnical and Foundation Engineering in the Civil Engineering department at NTH (now NTNU).

Since that time NTH/NTNU has always been represented in NGI's Board of Directors. Professor Steinar Nordal now holds this position. In 2005 NGI again established a branch office in Trondheim. One of the goals for this was to obtain closer contact with NTNU.
