  • Professor Kenneth Stokoe visits NGI

    Professor Kenneth H. Stokoe from the University of Texas at Austin is visiting NGI from 4th to 6th October. During his stay he will present a lecture on seismic measurements.  

  • New centre for green energy

    A new research centre for environmentally friendly energy, where NGI is one of the partners, opened Thursday April 8. The centre is named "SUbsurface CO2-storage Critical Elements and Superior Strategy" (SUCCESS).  

  • Reliance's KGD6 Fields

    NGI has provided its offshore geotechnical engineering expertise for Reliance's KG D6 project in the east coast of India. The project was completed in a record time.  

  • MoU with Chinese university

    NGI and the two Norwegian Universities in Bergen and Oslo will contribute to Zhuhai College in China plans to establish an international ocean engineering college.  

  • Priority to tunnel in Bhutan

    The Department of Geology and Mines (DGM) in Bhutan and NGI are recommending that a 10.6 km of tunnel from Yusipang in Thimphu to Nabesa in Wangduephodrang in Bhutan is a feasible proposal.

  • Slide evaluations in El Salvador

    The Hurricane IDA which hit El Salvador in November led to a series of landslides. On assignment from the World Bank, NGI has contributed to finding measures to reduce the risk for similar incidents in the future.  

  • Simulations of the tsunami on Samoa

    NGI and International Centre for Geohazards (ICG) have made numerical simulations of generation and propagation of the tsunami which hit the Pacific islands Samoa and American Samoa on Wednesday morning Norwegian time.

  • Solid background for Moss airport Rygge

    Moss airport Rygge has opened for the public after almost ten years project work. The ground conditions in the area are considered as very difficult, but NGI's engagement has contributed to a safe and stable foundation for the airport.  

  • ISO standard meeting on railway vibration specifications at NGI

  • It is raining good quality drinking water

    According to a 2008 survey in Norway, the water purifying facilities of Øvre Årdal municipality produce the best quality drinking water from an underground water source in Norway.  

  • Tunnels against landslides in Bhutan

    A study carried out by NGI and the Department of Geology and Mines (DGM) in Bhutan, concludes that it is possible to build new road tunnels to replace much of the road network exposed to slides and rockfall in Bhutan.  

  • Contamination require local solutions

    Contamination of the bottom sediments in fjords and harbours should primarily be solved with locally adapted measures. This is one of the preliminary conclusions of a major research project at NGI.  

  • Windmill installation in the North Sea

    On assignment for Norwind, NGI has contributed to the installation of offshore windmills from a platform in the German sector in the North Sea. NGI has verified the installations of piles for the foundations of the windmills.

  • Suzanne Lacasse awarded J.B. Sterling Medal

    Suzanne Lacasse has been awarded the John B. Sterling Medal in recognition of leadership and distinguished service at the national level with the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) and/or its Member Societies.

    A CPT with resistivity measurement has been developed as a tool to map quick clay depsits. Quick clay may be a serious geohazard in Scandinavia and North America.  

  • Natural Disaster Mitigation in the Caribbean

    Together with the University of the West Indies (UWI), NGI and ICG have carried out a project on capacity building for natural disaster mitigation in the Caribbean. A project seminar 4-5 December in Barbados will mark the end of the project.  

  • ICG appointed to World Centre of Excellence

  • Georadar investigations on dam in India

    NGI will make georadar investigations of the dam core of the newly built Tehri Dam, 200 km north of New Delhi. The 261 m highTehri Dam is number eight on the list of the highest dams in the world.  

  • Landslide seminar in Thailand

  • GeoSuite - geotechnical software package

    GeoSuite is a cooperation project between Norwegian and Swedish geotechnical communities, for development of a software package for geotechnical analysis and design. The work started in 2003 and is now near completion.  

  • NGI signs agreement with China on prevention of natural disasters

  • NGI into airborne EM surveys

    Onshore geophysical activities at NGI are increasing: As an advisor to DNO International ASA, NGI is planning, supervising and interpreting an Airborne Electromagnetic (EM) survey over an area of some 2.000 km2 in central Mozambique.  

  • Increased bilateral R&D cooperation - India and Norway
